Participation of the Researchers from the Institute of Zoology, USM, at the International Conference "Museum and Scientific Research - 2025"

The scientific researchers of the Institute of Zoology of the State University of Moldova participated in the 32nd edition of the International Conference "Museum and Scientific Research", organized by the Natural Sciences Section of the Oltenia Museum in Craiova, with the support of the Dolj County Council.

The event took place in a hybrid format (online and in-person) on September 18, 2025, bringing together specialists from various fields of natural sciences.

The Forest Festival is a celebration dedicated to nature, national unity, and to those who love the forest and wish for a greener future for the Republic of Moldova. The event is part of the National Afforestation Program, launched in 2023 under the patronage of President Maia Sandu, and aims to reforest approximately 145,000 hectares over the next 10 years.

The need for environmental protection and biodiversity conservation – the subject of the information seminar held in Slobozia Mare

On 11 September 2019, in the village of Slobozia Mare, Cahul district, an information seminar was held, organized by the Institute of Zoology and the Alexandru Ciubotaru National Botanical Garden (Institute) - two research institutes of the Moldova State University - within the project “Assessment of the state of plant, fungi and animal species, development of the list of species with rarity status and the algorithm for their presentation in the 4th edition of the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”.

The international project EcoFishFarm was officially launched

The public launch of the project „Ensuring the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems by ecological fish farming”, project ID - ROMD00578, project acronym - EcoFishFarm, took place on 3 September 2025. The project is financed by the European Union within the Interreg NEXT Romania – Republic of Moldova 2021-2027 Programme, co-financed by the participating countries in the Programme, and refers to the priority 1 of the Programme - Green Communities.

Researchers of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, had a broad participation in the International Salon of Invention and Innovative Entrepreneurship, which held its works on 6-7 June 2025 within the premises of the Ion Creanga State Pedagogical University from Chisinau.

In the Laboratory of Systematics and Molecular Phylogeny of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, the project 25.80013.7007.02GER "Entomopathogenic Fungi and Antagonists for the Biological Control of Insect Pests and Plant Diseases" – Fungi4BioControl is in full swing. The project is funded as result of the successful participation in the competition "Measures to promote bilateral mobility between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Moldova based on projects - ProMoMo", launched by the National Agency for Research and Development.

Danube Countries Start a Joint Sturgeon Monitoring Initiative to Save Europe’s Migratory Giants

Nine countries along the Danube River have joined forces to protect some of Europe’s most endangered species: the sturgeons. On 9–10 July, thirteen project partners and strategic allies – including national ministries, universities, NGOs and research bodies – gathered in Bucharest to launch “MonStur in the Danube”, a new cross-border effort to monitor and protect these ancient migratory fish.

Beware of snakes!

The warm season also brings with it the risk of encountering snakes. The greatest diversity is recorded in forest biotopes, at forest edges and in natural open ecosystems, near water bodies, but sometimes they can also be found in rural and urban areas, near households or even inside the buildings.
