From June 2-7, 2025, a workshop was held at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden, within the framework of the „Baltic & Black Sea Avian Disease Network" project. It brought together participants from Sweden (Linnaeus University, Ottenby Observatory, BirdLife Sweden), Republic of Moldova (Moldova State University), Ukraine (National Scientific Center Institute of Experimental and Clinical Veterinary Medicine), and Georgia (Ilia State University).

On June 5, 2025, the students of group P-021 from the Chisinau College of Ecology, specialty „Fish Farming and Aquaculture”, made a study visit in the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Aquaculture of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University.

Four species of saproxylic beetles – Lymexylon navale (Linnaeus, 1758), Pediacus dermestoides (Fabricius, 1792), Leiestes seminiger (Gyllenhal, 1808) and Grynocharis oblonga (Linnaeus, 1758) – have been recorded for the first time in the fauna of the Republic of Moldova. The insects were collected in 2023 and 2024 from the scientific reserves “Plaiul Fagului” and “Codrii”. Both forest reserves have plant associations typical of those in Central Europe, being located in the south-eastern extreme of their distribution area.

May 22 has been celebrated around the world since 2000 as International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD). The United Nations has proclaimed the IDB to increase understanding and awareness on the biodiversity issues. The theme of the 2025 edition is "Harmony with nature and sustainable development" (https://www.cbd.int/biodiversity-day).

On February 13, 2025, students of the 12th "A" and 12th "B" grades from the "Mihail Sadoveanu" Theoretical High from Chisinau made an educational visit to the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University.

On February 7, 2025, the 5th grade "D" pupils from the Mihai Viteazul Theoretical High School from Chișinău visited the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University. The main goal of this activity was to enrich the students' knowledge in the field of zoology and provide them with a practical experience related to scientific research in this area.

The Section of Live Sciences of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) organised the round table with international participation „Water quality in the aquatic ecosystems” on 28 January 2025.

Event was led by the President of ASM, Academician Ion Tighineanu, and the Vice President of the Section of Live Sciences, Academician Ion Toderaș. The round table took place in a hybrid format, with physical presence in the Small Hall of the ASM and online, on the ZOOM communication platform.

The monograph „Biological properties of some synthetic and natural compounds. Correlation of anticancer and antioxidant activities”, authors – Dr. Olga GARBUZ, Academician Ion TODERAȘ, Academician Aurelian GULEA, contains important original data on the anticancer and antioxidant activities of synthetic materials, including organic compounds, ligands, coordination compounds, and natural products such as bee products. Particular emphasis is placed on mechanisms of action.

Six researchers of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, have been distinguished by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova during 2024 for their considerable contribution to the development of fundamental and applied research in such fields as zoology, parasitology and aquatic ecology:

The Institute of Zoology hosted lectures for students from three third-year groups, the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the Moldova State University (MSU), on November 22 and 29, 2024.
