The book „Ichthyofauna of the Dniester River (within the territorial limits of the Republic of Moldova)”, authored by Bulat Dumitru, Șaptefrați Nicolae, Bulat Denis and Dadu Ana, presents the results of scientific research and multiyear ichthyological observations in the macro-ecosystem of the Dniester River under the conditions of increasing anthropogenic factors. 

Earth's biodiversity, formed over millions of years, is one of humanity's greatest treasures. Among the most numerous, from all the animal kingdom on Earth, stand out the invertebrates which, constituting over 80% of the total number of described species, are present in all types of habitats and on all continents. 

The researchers of the Institute of Zoology, as other researchers of the Moldova State University, participated on 16 May 2024 in the International Salon of Invention and Innovative Entrepreneurship, organized by the Institute of Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer of the „Ion Creanga” State Pedagogical University from Chisinau in partnership with the Public Association “Innovation in Performance Education”.

Two patented elaborations were presented, gold medals being awarded for each of them: 

On April 26, 2024 the Institute of Zoology hosted 26 students of the Faculty of Biology and Geosciences of the Moldova State University, first year, undergraduate cycle (study programs Biology, Biology and Geography, Education Sciences, Molecular Biology and Ecology).

The methodological guide includes the biology, ecology and distribution of 98 leaf- and planthopper species from 60 genera and 10 families. The biological cycle of these species are related to various tree species, fruiting and forest shrubs, vine plantations. Cicadas belong to Class Insecta, order Hemiptera, suborder Auchenorrhyncha. 

The Institute of Zoology was visited on 25 April 2024 by 16 students in the 2nd year, undergraduate cycle (Biology, Ecology and Molecular Biology study programs), from the Faculty of Biology and Geosciences of the Moldova State University (USM).

In the monograph "Entomopathogenic bacteria" authors Anna Moldovan, Natalia Munteanu-Molotievskiy, and Ion Toderas discuss the premises of the use of bacterial agents in the biological control of pest insects, with an emphasis on studied pest species. A separate chapter is dedicated to the basic methods of isolation, identification, and characterization of entomopathogenic bacteria. Also are presented the results on the development of bacterial agents for biological control of pests based on new strains isolated from the natural environment.

The Institute of Zoology in partnership with the Alexandru Ciubotaru National Botanical Garden (Institute) officially launched on 3 April 2024 the project “Assessment of the state of plant, fungi and animal species, development of the list of species with rarity status and the algorithm for their presentation in the 4th edition of the Red Book of the Republic of Moldova”.

Already traditionally, the scientific community marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in the first decade of February, through a decision of the UN General Assembly, which promotes full and equal access and participation of women in the following fields: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, from 5 February 2023, the first in the current year, was an opportunity to offer the awards obtained by the Institute of Zoology at the „Infoinvent” Specialized International Exhibition (22-24 November 2023, online format).
