Ecological education lesson at the gymnasium from Ucrainca locality, Causeni district

On March 26, 2026, at the "Alexandru Sturza" gymnasium from Ucrainca locality, Causeni district, a meeting with the students from grades IV-IX was organized. Researchers from the Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University - Dr.Hab. Victoria Nistreanu, PhD Natalia Sochircă, PhD Alina Larion and PhD Sîtnic Victor – conducted an ecological education lesson entitled "Rare species of terrestrial vertebrates in the Republic of Moldova".

Birds - living heritage of our land

As part of the week dedicated to the promotion of regional values, a meeting with students of the Public Institution High School "Minerva" from Chisinău municipality was organized on 24 March 2026. At the initiative of biology teacher Tamara Veringa, PhD student of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, and under the heading "National values inspire generations", a lesson was presented about one of the living heritages of our land – birds.

On March 3, we celebrate World Wildlife Day, an annual event to highlight the importance of conserving wildlife and their habitats. In 2013, at the 68th session of the ONU General Assembly, it was decided that March 3, the day on which the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora – CITES, a key agreement in protecting species threatened by international trade, was adopted, would be celebrated as World Wildlife Day.

Local fish farming and rural development – a topic for dialogue between researchers, fish farmers and authorities

A round table discussion on the topic „Local fish farming and rural development” was organized by the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University on 20 February 2026 in Albinețul Vechi commune, Fălești district. The event brought together representatives of local public authorities, fish farmers (including JSC Ghidrin, LTD Zucalex) and locals from the villages of Albinețul Vechi, Musteața, and Năvârneț (Fălești district).

Two fish farms in Iași County were recently visited within the EcoFishFarm project

A group of researchers from the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, have travelled to Iași county on 11-12 November 2025 within the ROMD00578 project "Ensuring the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems through ecological fish farming" (acronym - EcoFisFarm). Together with the project partner - Iasi University of Life Sciences – a research expedition was organized, which had as its destination two fish farms in Iași County - Podul Iloaiei and Delta Moldovei.

The event took place in person on November 20, 2025, bringing together specialists from various fields of natural sciences.
