Overview

The EcoFishFarm project is focused on the fortification of research and innovation in the field of protection and conservation of biodiversity, development of ecological aquaculture.

A comprehensive study of aquatic resources, water and fish product quality, and ecological status of at least 10 fish ponds from Romania and the Republic of Moldova will be performed, as a pilot-action developed jointly within the project. Innovation elements regarding the rearing of healthy fish and mitigation of environmental pollution, identified during laboratory modelling and field works, will be patented. A joint management framework plan on the development of ecological fish farming in the Prut River basin will be developed and disseminated, serving as methodological and strategic support for reducing environmental pollution, obtaining the fish products of a suitable quality for a good human health.

Despite the existence of several regulations and technologies regarding the development of aquaculture, which globally is a branch with the fastest economic growth through the development of different fish culture systems, ecological fish farming is a poorly developed field both in terms of obtaining ecological fish production and the protection of the aquatic environment.

The originality of the EcoFishFarm will consists in delivering of guidance in increasing the ecological sustainability of aquatic ecosystems through the development of ecological aquaculture.
