New book: Pollinating insects (Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera) of the Republic of Moldova

The monograph „Pollinating insects (Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera) of the Republic of Moldova”, authors Bacal Svetlana, Bușmachiu Galina, Derjanschi Valeriu, Țugulea Cristina, Calestru Livia, and Enciu Elena, presents essential information about the main categories of pollinators from the natural ecosystems and agroecosystems of the Republic of Moldova. Natural habitats such as steppe, meadows, forests and agricultural systems such as sunflower, alfalfa and rapeseed crops, as well as apple, plum, apricot and cherry orchards, whose productivity is closely linked to the activity of pollinating insects, are analysed.

The volume includes an updated list of pollinating insect species belonging to the orders Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera and Diptera, identified in these ecosystems. The study provides a synthesis of these taxonomic groups, with an emphasis on rare species and those of particular economic importance, frequently encountered in the investigated habitats.

For the first time, an inventory of characteristic pollinators for each type of ecosystem is presented, highlighting the relationships between insects and plant species. The book can be a valuable tool for all those interested in the study of pollinating insects, which play a fundamental role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting ecosystem services.

The work was elaborated within the research subprogram 010701 „Evaluation of the structure and functioning of animal world and aquatic ecosystems under the influence of biotic and abiotic factors in the context of ensuring ecological security and the well-being of the population” of the Moldova State University.
