On April 1, 2026, the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University organized the workshop “Fish Farming and Sustainable Management of Aquatic Ecosystems” within the framework of the project ROMD00578 „Ensuring the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems through ecological fish farming” – EcoFishFarm (the Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania-Republic of Moldova Programme 2021- 2027, financed by the European Union and co-financed by the participating countries in the Programme).

Today, April 1, we celebrate World Bird Day or International Bird Day, with the aim of raising awareness of the need to protect birds by protecting their habitats, marking the return of birds from their wintering areas. World Bird Day has been celebrated annually since 1906, based on the Convention for the Protection of Birds, signed in Paris on March 19, 1902.

On March 26, 2026, at the "Alexandru Sturza" gymnasium from Ucrainca locality, Causeni district, a meeting with the students from grades IV-IX was organized. Researchers from the Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University - Dr.Hab. Victoria Nistreanu, PhD Natalia Sochircă, PhD Alina Larion and PhD Sîtnic Victor – conducted an ecological education lesson entitled "Rare species of terrestrial vertebrates in the Republic of Moldova".

The fieldwork within the project DRP0301251, titled „Establishing, testing and launching a transboundary system for Monitoring Sturgeons, to manage and safeguard migratory fish in the Danube River Basin” (acronym – MonStur in the Danube), began at the end of March.

As part of the week dedicated to the promotion of regional values, a meeting with students of the Public Institution High School "Minerva" from Chisinău municipality was organized on 24 March 2026. At the initiative of biology teacher Tamara Veringa, PhD student of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, and under the heading "National values inspire generations", a lesson was presented about one of the living heritages of our land – birds.

On March 3, we celebrate World Wildlife Day, an annual event to highlight the importance of conserving wildlife and their habitats. In 2013, at the 68th session of the ONU General Assembly, it was decided that March 3, the day on which the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora – CITES, a key agreement in protecting species threatened by international trade, was adopted, would be celebrated as World Wildlife Day.

A round table discussion on the topic „Local fish farming and rural development” was organized by the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University on 20 February 2026 in Albinețul Vechi commune, Fălești district. The event brought together representatives of local public authorities, fish farmers (including JSC Ghidrin, LTD Zucalex) and locals from the villages of Albinețul Vechi, Musteața, and Năvârneț (Fălești district).

Recently, the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University became the beneficiary of a generous donation from the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova, thanks to the project “Biosecurity Implementation Framework for Biological Resources Management in Moldova”, funded by GEF UNEP.

The monograph „Pollinating insects (Hymenoptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera) of the Republic of Moldova”, authors Bacal Svetlana, Bușmachiu Galina, Derjanschi Valeriu, Țugulea Cristina, Calestru Livia, and Enciu Elena, presents essential information about the main categories of pollinators from the natural ecosystems and agroecosystems of the Republic of Moldova.

In the period of 10–23 November 2025, a group of researchers of the Institute of Zoology, MSU, and namely Roman Croitor, Dr. Habil. in Biological Sciences, Victoria Nistreanu, Dr. Habil. in Biological Sciences, Alina Larion, PhD in Biological Sciences, Denis Zaharov and Vladislav Mararescul, visited the Emil Racovita Institute of Speleology of the Romanian Academy (Bucharest, Romania).
