11 February – the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

On 11 February, the scientific community celebrates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, as result of the United Nations General Assembly resolution A/RES/70/212 adopted in December 2015. The initiative had the aim to promote the employment of women and girls in the sciences, to encourage the career development and participation in the decision-making processes in science, to recognize the achievements of women in science.

Guidance on the monitoring of water quality and assessment of the ecological status of aquatic ecosystems (editors: dr. Lucia Biletchi, corr.mem. Elena Zubcov) was elaborated by the researchers of the Laboratory of Hydrobiology and Ecotoxicology and the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Aquaculture in the frame of the project no. 20.80009.7007.06 AQUABIO, State Program (2020-2023).

At the meeting from 12 January 2022, in order to streamline the process of preparing scientific personnel by PhD programs, motivate the young people to engage in research, development and innovation, the Government of the Republic of Moldova approved the Government Decision on awarding the Government Scholarship of Excellence and Scholarship on scientific fields for PhD students for 2022.

Knowledge transfer training for the students of the Alecu Russo State University from Bălți

On 20 November 2021, the Institute of Zoology organised a knowledge transfer training within the project 2 SOFT/1.2/47 Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin – TeamUp HealthyFish (Joint Operational Program Romania-Republic of Moldova 2014-2020 funded by the European Union). Restrictions on the COVID-19 pandemic imposed the online format of the event.

At the 17th edition of the International Specialised Exhibition ”INFOINVENT”, which was organised an online format between 17 and 20 November 2021 in Chisinau, the Institute of Zoology presented its results at the Part I: Inventions and plant varieties, industrial design and the Part II: Research and innovation projects. Jury, headed by correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Svetlana Cojocaru, highly appreciated the elaborations of the Institute of Zoology:

World Science Day for Peace and Development 2021

The World Science Day for Peace and Development, marked every year on 10 November, was established on 2 November 2001, at the 31st session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), by Resolution 20/31C, in order to highlight the important role of science in society and the need to engage the general public in debates on important contemporary issues relevant to science. World Science Day was celebrated for the first time worldwide on 10 November 2002, under the auspices of UNESCO.
