Between May 14-15, 2022, in the village of Văleni, Cahul district, the ninth edition of the National Ethno-Folk Festival “Sweet Acacia Flower” took place.

Current state of fish farming in the Republic of Moldova was one of the topics presented in the edition of the show "Codul Eco" from 9 May 2022, broadcast by the national television channel Moldova 1. Film shooting was done in the fish farm from Nimoreni village, Ialoveni district, having as interviewees Vitalie Bortă, fish farmer, Gheorghe Gheorghiu, executive director of the Association of Fish Farmers of the Republic of Moldova, and researchers of the Institute of Zoology – cor.mem. Elena Zubcov, dr. Nadejda Andreev and dr.hab. Dumitru Bulat.

On 8 of April 2022, within the cross-border project 2 SOFT/1.2/47 „Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin” – TeamUp HealthyFish (Joint Operational Program Romania-Republic of Moldova 2014-2020, funded by the European Union), a scientific workshop on the current state of fish farming in the basin of the Prut river and perspectives for its improvement was held. Workshop was organised by the Institute of Zoology jointly with the project partner – Iasi Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Life Sciences. 

We are happy to announce that Natalia Dibolscaia, trainee scientific researcher in the Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates, will benefit from March 1, 2022 of the scholarship in the field "Global Monitoring of the Planet”, with the research topic “Monitoring of bat species in the urban environment of the Republic of Moldova”.

The most numerous animals on Earth are insects, exceeding one million species distributed in the most diverse terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Currently, 20% of the known insect species are butterflies, and about 40% – beetles. Approximately 1000 species of macrolepidoptera and 2550 species of beetles are known in the Republic of Moldova, the number of which is increasing every year due to research conducted by entomologists. 

The employees of the Institute of Zoology donate financial means equivalent to the salary for 1 working day in support of refugees from Ukraine.

The Board of Directors of the Research Institutes, on behalf of all employees of the public law organizations in the field of research and innovation they lead, expresses its full solidarity with the heroic struggle of the Ukrainian people for the right to decide sovereignly their destiny and achieve their European vocation. The cause of the Ukrainian people is right and legitimate, as sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the state are being threatened.

Methodological guide for monitoring the hydropower impact on transboundary river ecosystems was elaborated in the frame of the international project eMS BSB 165 Creating a system of innovative transboundary monitoring of the Black Sea river ecosystems transformation under impacts of hydropower development and climate change – HydroEcoNex (Joint Operational Program Black Sea Basin 2014-2020, financed by the European Union).

During the period January 3 to 28, 2022, the Institute of Zoology was visited by Laëtitia Demay, a Doctor of Prehistoric Archeology and scientific researcher of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France.

The edition of the show ”Between YES and NO"” from 9 February 2022, which is broadcasted by the radio station Eco FM, had as guests corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova Elena Zubcov, head of the Center of Research of Hydrobiocenoses and Ecotoxicology, dr.hab. Dumitru Bulat, head of the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Aquaculture, and Ion Gologan, scientific researcher in the Laboratory of Parasitology and Helminthology.
