Current state of fish farming in the Republic of Moldova was one of the topics presented in the edition of the show "Codul Eco" from 9 May 2022, broadcast by the national television channel Moldova 1. Film shooting was done in the fish farm from Nimoreni village, Ialoveni district, having as interviewees Vitalie Bortă, fish farmer, Gheorghe Gheorghiu, executive director of the Association of Fish Farmers of the Republic of Moldova, and researchers of the Institute of Zoology – cor.mem. Elena Zubcov, dr. Nadejda Andreev and dr.hab. Dumitru Bulat.

Current state of fish farming in the basin of the Prut river and perspectives for its improvement under discussion at the Institute of Zoology

On 8 of April 2022, within the cross-border project 2 SOFT/1.2/47 „Team up for healthy fish in aquaculture systems of the Prut river basin” – TeamUp HealthyFish (Joint Operational Program Romania-Republic of Moldova 2014-2020, funded by the European Union), a scientific workshop on the current state of fish farming in the basin of the Prut river and perspectives for its improvement was held. Workshop was organised by the Institute of Zoology jointly with the project partner – Iasi Ion Ionescu de la Brad University of Life Sciences.

New book: Rare insect species from the Republic of Moldova

The most numerous animals on Earth are insects, exceeding one million species distributed in the most diverse terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Currently, 20% of the known insect species are butterflies, and about 40% – beetles. Approximately 1000 species of macrolepidoptera and 2550 species of beetles are known in the Republic of Moldova, the number of which is increasing every year due to research conducted by entomologists.

Methodological guide for monitoring the hydropower impact on transboundary river ecosystems was elaborated in the frame of the international project eMS BSB 165 Creating a system of innovative transboundary monitoring of the Black Sea river ecosystems transformation under impacts of hydropower development and climate change – HydroEcoNex (Joint Operational Program Black Sea Basin 2014-2020, financed by the European Union).
