On June 5, 2025, the students of group P-021 from the Chisinau College of Ecology, specialty „Fish Farming and Aquaculture”, made a study visit in the Laboratory of Ichthyology and Aquaculture of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University.
During the activity, carried out as part of their professional training internship, the students had the opportunity to become familiar with the methodology for processing the collected fish material and namely:
• determining taxonomic characteristics based on external morphological features;
• examining fish scales under the microscope to determine age;
• identifying sex and the developmental stage of the gonads;
• detecting the presence of ecto- and endoparasites in fish, etc.
The laboratory researchers provided information regarding the methods used to collect ichthyological samples, variety of fishing tools and the statistical processing of data. Such issues as the current state of fishery resources in the Republic of Moldova, as well as measures for the conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish stocks were also discussed.
Such visits play an essential role in the professional training of future specialists, by complementing theoretical knowledge with valuable practical experience in the fields of ichthyology, fish farming, and environmental protection.
