Today, July 22, 2026, the scientific community of the Republic of Moldova and, in particular, the staff of the Institute of Zoology of Moldova State University, celebrates 100 years since the birth of Academician Ion Ganea, a personality of exceptional scientific rigor, unanimously recognized as the founder of the national school of ornithology.

An important event took place recently within the project DRP0301251 “Establishing, testing and launching a transboundary system for Monitoring Sturgeons, to manage and safeguard migratory fish in the Danube River Basin” - MonStur in the Danube – and namely the meeting of partners from 24-25 June in Vienna. The project is carried out within the framework of the Interreg Danube Region Programme 2021-2027, co-funded by the European Union.

A professional and scientific internship entitled "Testing and Applying Innovative Equipment for Monitoring Algal Blooms in Aquatic Ecosystems" was held June 15–19, 2026, at the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, Romania. This scientific exchange took place as part of the bilateral project between Romania and the Republic of Moldova titled “Monitoring algal blooms aggravated by eutrophic pollution and climate warming in Danube Delta ecosystems” (ALGA-MONITOR), project number 25.80013.5107.

Five researchers from the Laboratory of Systematics and Molecular Phylogeny, Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, participated in the 19th edition of the International Symposium "Current Trends in Natural Sciences", organized between May 21-23, 2026, by the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest, University Center of Pitești, Romania.

Scientific researchers Sorina Istrati and Ecaterina Doni from the Laboratory of Systematics and Molecular Phylogeny of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, participated in the second edition of the International Conference on Biodiversity, Conservation and Climate Change, organized by the Scientific Center for Zoology and Hydroecology of the NAS RA and Yerevan State University, Armenia.

Researchers of the Laboratory of Entomology of the Institute of Zoology, MSU, Dr. Hab. Associate Professor Galina Bușmachiu and Dr. Hab. Associated Professor Svetlana Bacal participated on June 12-14, 2026 at the International Conference "Present Environment and Sustainable Development", organized by the Faculty of Geography and Geology, Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași, Romania. Within the section "Biodiversity Loss and Conservation Strategies.

On June 8, 2026, in the research laboratories of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, practical training activities and familiarization with modern scientific research methods were carried out, within the framework of the specialty practice of the second-year full-time students of the Faculty of Biology and Geosciences, specializing in Ecology and Environmental Protection.

Every year on June 5, the international community celebrates World Environment Day, the world's largest global initiative dedicated to protecting nature and driving sustainable development. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, the event made its debut in 1973 under the historic slogan “Only One Earth”.

The ‘Science’ Union celebrated International Children’s Day with a special event held on May 30, 2026 - a joyful outing was organized for the approximately 100 children of our colleagues from the research institutes of the Moldova State University. It was a wonderful day for the children, spent alongside their parents, combined fun and education in a friendly, informal setting.

The first stop of the trip was to the Bardar Zoo Club, where the children had the opportunity to interact directly with numerous animal species.
