Dear colleagues, we kindly invite you to participate in the 11th International Conference of Zoologists "Sustainable Use and Protection of the Animal World", dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Zoology, which will be held on September 10-11, 2026 at the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University (1, Academiei Street, Chisinau, MD 2028, Republic of Moldova).

Deadline for registration and paper submission: July 1, 2026.

The ‘Science’ Union marked International Children’s Day with an outing organized for the children of researchers

The ‘Science’ Union celebrated International Children’s Day with a special event held on May 30, 2026 - a joyful outing was organized for the approximately 100 children of our colleagues from the research institutes of the Moldova State University. It was a wonderful day for the children, spent alongside their parents, combined fun and education in a friendly, informal setting.

The first stop of the trip was to the Bardar Zoo Club, where the children had the opportunity to interact directly with numerous animal species.

New book: The ionic composition of the Dniester River within the territory of the Republic of Moldova

The monograph “The ionic composition of the Dniester River within the territory of the Republic of Moldova” by Nina Bagrin represents a synthesis of the results of long-term hydrochemical investigations conducted during 1981-2023 by the Laboratory of Hydrobiology and Ecotoxicology of the Institute of Zoology. The results obtained for the period 2020-2023 are based on investigations carried out directly by the author, while the previous data originate from the long-term studies of the laboratory.

The International Day for Biological Diversity or World Biodiversity Day, marked annually on May 22, is an occasion for global awareness and action to protect the planet's species and ecosystems. Established by the United Nations in 2000, this day reminds us that biodiversity is not only an expression of the richness of nature, but a vital element for the survival of each species. The main purpose of this celebration is to raise awareness of biodiversity issues and emphasize the importance of natural resources for maintaining life on Earth.

On May 4 and 5, 2026, the Institute of Zoology, Laboratory of Systematics and Molecular Phylogeny organized a series of six lectures for students of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy "Nicolae Testemițanu", carried out in the framework of promoting interdisciplinary research and strengthening the scientific skills of young researchers. 

The current topics in the fields of molecular biology, biochemistry, toxicology, and mathematical modeling used in research were examined:

A roundtable discussion entitled "Rational capitalisation of aquatic biological resources" took place on 29 April 2026 at the mayoralty of Slobozia Mare village, Cahul district. The event was organized by the Institute of Zoology of the Moldova State University within the project ROMD00578 "Ensuring the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems by ecological fish farming" - EcoFishFarm (Interreg VI-A NEXT Romania-Republic of Moldova Programme 2021- 2027, financed by the European Union and co-financed by the participating countries in the Programme).

Today, April 1, we celebrate World Bird Day or International Bird Day, with the aim of raising awareness of the need to protect birds by protecting their habitats, marking the return of birds from their wintering areas. World Bird Day has been celebrated annually since 1906, based on the Convention for the Protection of Birds, signed in Paris on March 19, 1902.

On March 26, 2026, at the "Alexandru Sturza" gymnasium from Ucrainca locality, Causeni district, a meeting with the students from grades IV-IX was organized. Researchers from the Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University - Dr.Hab. Victoria Nistreanu, PhD Natalia Sochircă, PhD Alina Larion and PhD Sîtnic Victor – conducted an ecological education lesson entitled "Rare species of terrestrial vertebrates in the Republic of Moldova".
