Researchers from the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University (Laboratory of Entomology and Laboratory of Terrestrial Vertebrates) participated in the International Scientific Symposium “Biodiversity Conservation - An Essential Pillar for the Functioning of Natural Ecosystems”, dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the Codrii Reserve.

The event was held at the central headquarters of the reserve, in Lozova Commune, Strășeni District, on 25 September 2026. During the symposium, five scientific presentations were delivered by researchers from the Institute of Zoology, focusing on the diversity and conservation of insect, bird, and mammal species:

  • Livia Calestru: Hygrophilous and mesohygrophilous species of the family Chrysomelidae (Coleoptera) from the Codrii Scientific Reserve;
  • Cristina Țugulea: Diversity of diurnal butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) in the hygrophilous grasslands of the Codrii Scientific Reserve and the importance of conserving these habitats;
  • Natalia Dibolscaia: Bat species in the ecosystems of the Codrii Scientific Reserve; co-authors: Victoria Nistreanu, Vladislav Caldari, Alina Larion;
  • Vladislav Caldari: First monitoring of mammals using camera traps; co-authors: Victoria Nistreanu, Victor Sîtnic, Alina Larion, Natalia Dibolscaia, Tudor Glăvan-Caranghel;

We would like to mention that PhD Lucia Bilețchi, Associate Professor, Director of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Symposium.

The participation of Institute of Zoology researchers in this scientific event contributed to sharing knowledge on biodiversity, faunal community structure, and the importance of conserving natural habitats in the Codrii Reserve.
