As part of the week dedicated to the promotion of regional values, a meeting with students of the Public Institution High School "Minerva" from Chisinău municipality was organized on 24 March 2026. At the initiative of biology teacher Tamara Veringa, PhD student of the Institute of Zoology, Moldova State University, and under the heading "National values inspire generations", a lesson was presented about one of the living heritages of our land – birds.
The activity aimed cultivating a sense of identity and responsibility towards the natural values of the native region, by raising awareness on the vital role of birds in ecosystems and promoting the protection of local biodiversity as an integral part of the national heritage.
The set-up objectives consisted of: 1) ecological education, by understanding the importance of the interdependence between humans, birds and nature for a healthy environment and 2) capitalizing on creative potential, by making and presenting artistic crafts with favourite species.
The essential role of birds in the balance of nature was presented and discussed, as well as why protecting local biodiversity is an act of patriotism and respect for the values of national heritage.
We thank the administration and teachers of "Minerva" High school for the invitation, and the students – for their creative energy. It is particularly gratifying that the younger generation finds inspiration in the authentic values of the nation and nature.
